Thursdays Tasty Chawanmushi [Japanese Steamed Egg Custard]

I bought a box of eggs yesterday and got freebies along it. 2 extra eggs and a chawanmushi recipe :p I love chawanmushi..[isk rendu Sushi King..] So I decided to make it as Adam lunch.

I've tried to make egg custard for Adam previously, using a stove and it failed miserably.. Some how, the egg got separated with the milk.  But this time, according to the recipe, I have to steam it for 15 mins only..Easy aite? FYI, I never used an electric steamer before and found out it is so convenience to have one in the kitchen.

So here's the recipe;

1. Just beat 2 eggs in a bowl
2. Put chicken/Mushroom/Veges/Corn [whatever u like i.e. meat etc] and pour 1/2 cup water [120ml] into beaten egg and mix well.
3. Distribute to 2,3 bowls
4. Cover it with cling wrap or aluminium foil
5. Steam it with low heat for about 15 mins

Note: You can add seafood, salt, sesame oil, etc to enhance the taste.

Recipe is based on Seng Choon ChawanMushi Mix Recipe.

After just recovered from a bad fever, Adam appetite has finally make a comeback. Thanks to the bento idea, and I'll definitely keep making bento for Adam if I got some extra time in my pocket. He he It doesn't have to be fancy..just separate the fruits , rice, and vege and put it in a tupperware, it's already a bento for me.. he he

Happy Thursday! btw mlm ni mlm jumaat ha ha

Wednesday Pain

I'm so stress right now.

And 'accidentally' ate five [5] balls of Ferrero Roche in 10 minutes. Imagine how stress I am.

Guilty.

Btw, the interview was rescheduled on 14 Oct. Yippee!

Still feeling guilty from the Ferrero Roche incident..

and it annoyed me to max.. Blame the hormone please..

In the bedroom with Adam beside us;

Me: You don't have to check on the rashes like every minutes..grr
Hubby: I'm a concerned father.. *grin*

Then Adam ran out to the living hall and fell down..

Hubby: Go check on Adam.. Gi2x
Me:Concerned father kunun :p

Sunday Rainbow Cake

Adam fever is finally subsided..Alhamdulilah.. Since it was a viral fever, his body is still having a reaction due to immune attack, and developing some kind of rashes all over his body. We brought him to see pediatrician yesterday and hopefully the rashes will gone in 3 to 5 days.

Anyway, to cheer up our cloudy Sunday, I decided to bake a cake. It has been a long stressful week, dealing with the fever and tantrums.Phew!

I found out baking is the one of my instant stress cure [beside shopping!] and after all it keeps my sanity in shape.Enough said, let's check on the cake.

The cake of the week is Rainbow Cake!! The recipe is from Almost Bourdain and originally rooted from several links. Please refer HERE for the recipe.

The main focus is the rainbow swirls, so it's okay to use any cake recipe that you like as long as the batter can be colored. I baked it as the recipe [vanilla butter cake] said and it is soo yummeh.Hmm.. I can't recalled when and where the last time I ate Vanilla cake.

This recipe is definitely a keeper and I've bookmarked this for Adam's next birthday. he he

Happy sunday!

Saturday Bread and Butter Biscuits

I saw this recipe from Bisous A Toi and quicky bake it! He he. Now I know how to make use of my-nearly-expired bread. Or else, I've to keep it in the fridge and wait for my bread pudding mojo to come. ;p

Owh..this is soo kicking.. Dipped it in a cup of black coffee [without sugar ] and heaven!

My granny, then  followed with my parent, used to buy this kind of biscuit/biskut tongkat when I was small. We all love to cicah [dip] with black coffee [kopi O kaw!]

The recipe is from here.

Friday Kueh Lapis

This is Adam's favorite kuih.

It was easy to make this kuih, as easy as you eat it.. he he Earlier, I thought I would face with a tedious job layering the batter, but it was the other way around. It was soo soo easy to make this kuih and it turned out well.. alhamdulilah.. [saya budak baru belajar]

I love the rosey and cononut milk aromas swirling around the kitchen while steaming this kuih. Therapeutic.

And I choose pink and light green to make it looked so pastel in color.

Turned out, Adam ate a lil bit only [due to fever, no appetite], I ate 1/4 and the rest went to the hubby tummy ;p

Recipe [a keeper!] from HERE.

Thursday With Fever

Get well soon baby boy..miss our reading and playing sesssion together :(
Adam is having a fever. It started on Tuesday morning and the fever hasn't subsided till today.

Worry.

The temperature rose up to 40.7 yesterday. We took him to the hospital, and the doc said it was a viral fever. And the norm medicine [paracetamol, ibuprofen, flu] was prescribed.

On the other hand, my lil boy didn't like to be sponged, no Cold fever sticked on his forehead and obviously would throw out the Panadol syrup syringed to his mouth.Sigh. Left me with no options rather than to insert paracetamol suppository in his r*ctum. Poor baby.

The fever has last for almost 3 days. This morning, I tried to syringe him with a dose of ibuprofen, and Alhamdulilah, he swallowed it. The temperature went down to 35.8 at 1 pm. Now is 5.06pm, and I measured it again, the temp rose again to 38.6.

Worry again.

Hopefully, he will has a quick recover..ameen..

Sunday Bento

This is mommy first bento for Adam. Yippee!

Mommy was so excited to make a bento for Adam. She stayed up all night, did some research on bento, the prep and design, etc, slept at 630a.m, woke up at 8 a.m, and straight to the market to find some stuff for the bento. Tadaa.. bento served on the table.

....

Unfortunately, he ended up eating "the monster's mouth" a.k.a the cheese only. T_T

And Daddy stuffed all the 'sushi' inside his tummy.

You get and A for effort babe. Keep on 'bento' ing!

The recipe for the Nutella + Banana Sushi was based on The 24 Hour Kitchen's Peanut Butter and Banana "sushi".
  • Lay out one slice of wheat bread, cut off crust- I didnt cut the crust
  • Squish bread flat as can be
  • Spread a thin layer of PB over the bread- I used Nutella
  • Cut banana into long strips
  • Starting closes to you, place the banana about 1/3 of the way away from the edge of bread
  • Roll the bread up and over the banana and contine to roll
  • Press to seal – the PB should be sticky enough for it not to unroll

Saturday Soto Ayam

It Saturday morning, I woke up at 8 and had a terrible craving for Soto Ayam. Quickly had my shower and off to the wet market to buy all the ingredients. It took me a while to slowly pick and grab all the portions from the market since I never prepare Soto from scratch ;p

But, me being me, even though I had a list with me, I forgot to buy the main component, the Adabi nasi Himpit. [not all from scratch he he ]My saviour a.k.a my hubby had to go here and there, from shop to shop to find THE nasik himpit. or else we would have to settle on bihun. So x jadik la soto ayam.. ;p jadik bihun soto nanti..but he managed to come home with 2 packet of it.. Great!

Even though it sounds so easy to prepare it, believe me when I say it is soooo tedious to make Soto Ayam from scratch. I normally buy the Soto "rempah" and threw everything inside the pot and it would taste more like a chicken soup rather than a real Soto Ayam. As I said, it was tedious. I had to prepare the soup, the begedil, lining down the "rencah" aka carik ayam, frying the soo hon, slicing down everything, oh etc. I was rushing since we had a Raya date at my sis in law house at 1++. I was sweating all the time trying to cope with the timeline. Oh, baju x iron lagi, Adam x makan lagi, soto x siap lagi. tsk.

Finally, after 21/2 hr in the kitchen, my soto is served on the table. Phew!

And to my amaze, Alhamdulilah, Adam ate a bowl of it. Being known for his western appetite, it surprised me very much. and I'm Glad my hubby love it, in fact he added another bowl of it. It was yummeh to our own liking. As I always said it, this recipe is a keeper!!

Thanks CMG for sharing the recipe!! here's the link for those who wanna try it.

Oops.Missing in action in above pic is the begedils.

Macam cokodok kan? T_T

A Note to Adam [13 months]

Dear Adam,

Alhamdulilah, time flies very swooooosh and now you're my cute 13 months old baby. You've mastered your walk and now turning into a bubbly little man. You used to point on everything you saw and said uh or aah..but now, you know how to said the thing's name even though it sounds soo pelat.. he he and sometimes, only mommy can understand you, and it's a privilege for me ;)

Your first words, if i would recalled is Muah,[did it everytime you kiss me or someone else], then Fish, then motor, even though you pronounce it as "tish", [x count as a word lah kot ;p], after that, Car, then Daddy, Cat, and few more..

Dear Adam, you knew how to say Daddy, but not mommy.. It's not that I'm jealous or what, it's just that, I'm the one who's around you 24/7.. come on.. every time I asked you to repeat "mommy" after me, you'll said Dada, or Papa.. am I looked the same as your daddy? huh? Nevermind, I'll wait.. *isk*

You're still a picky eater. No Malay foods on the table please. Tak main lah he he you chose to put western foods  in your tummy. Your latest craving is Carbonara pasta and cheese. You eat cheese everyday!! uhh I also have to shape all the bread slices into teddy bear, star and moon cuts so it would look cute and you would eat it. Sometime you ate it, sometimes not. Tambah keje nak cut into that shapes. :/

Hopefully, mommy will have some spare time to do your bento, so your meals will look delicious and yummeh..You only eat food that looks attractive and CHEESY ;p

Nevertheless, Mommy loves you very much. kiss kiss.

Tart Nenas Bunga with cream-cheesed dough

Tart Nenas has become a must-served Raya cookie on the table for most families in Malaysia including mine. And most people would claim their mom's, or auntie's, grannie's or any other Jane's the best.

So do I.

My mom's recipe is my father's favorite since it melts in your mouth and the best part is the pineapple filling itself. The sweet-sour tasted jam was indescribable.Yummehs! For me, my mom is sooo good in making jam, you named it, from pineapple jam up to rambutan jam. And again it all were yummeh!

So, this year, I decided to bake my own tart nenas. My early plan was to follow my mom's recipe, kunun resepi warisan lah ;p, but I was tempted to try K. Fida recipe in MyResepi. She added cream cheese into the dough, and I presumed it would enrich the dough with "lemak2" flavor. And it did! So this recipe is totally a keeper. ;)

For the shape, frankly typing, I adore the old-shaped tart, round and love shapes, more that the 'gulong" one. Non other reasons except the shape reminisces me back into my childhood memories where we used to make tart nenas in that shape. Nolstalgic!

But on the other hand, I saw this flowery shape on Google and "sepantas kilat" did the tart with this shape. And it was a tedious job ever. It took me about 4 hours, bersekang mata, shaping up the petals and leaves. But the result was amazing. Definitely will make my tart with the Flower shape ever. :)

Will update more on this. Need to work some magic in the kitchen..
